If you haven’t heard of a nesting party yet, you’re in for a treat! Recently, I hosted one for a close friend who’s expecting, and it was the perfect way to get her home organized before the baby’s arrival. As a professional organizer, I love creating systems to make life easier, and this nesting party was such a great way to combine fun, support, and a bit of hands-on work.

The concept of a nesting party is simple: gather close friends and family to help the expecting mom get everything in place so she can focus on the baby and feel a little less overwhelmed once they arrive. Baby registries and shopping are exciting at first, but by the time you’re eight months along, the idea of putting it all away can feel daunting. That’s where a nesting party comes in handy!

WHEN TO HOST A NESTING PARTY

We planned her nesting party right after her baby shower but a few weeks before her due date, so everything she needed was on hand and ready to be put away. She had already set up the big stuff, like the crib and stroller, but she needed help with the smaller essentials and final touches. Everyone who came to the party brought a premade freezer meal and snacks (my favorite as a new mom were these protein balls) for her to enjoy postpartum—one less thing for her to think about in those hectic first weeks.

Before we got to work, she treated us to a lovely lunch, and then it was time to roll up our sleeves!

SETTING UP SYSTEMS FOR BABY

We started by sorting all the baby items into categories—clothing, bath products, swaddles, and diapering essentials. Having everything grouped made the organizing process go much faster. I had sent her links to a few key organizing bins to order, so she had those purchased and ready for us to implement into the space.

We also separated clothing by size, folded everything neatly, and organized it into dresser drawers. Labels were a game-changer here, giving each drawer a clear purpose—something I highly recommend for anyone setting up a nursery. One pro tip is to label the drawers by clothing category, and not by size. This will allow for a more long-lasting system and less to keep up on when you transition clothes as they grow.

Her diaper bag and caddies were also on the to-do list. We filled those with everything she’d need, so they’re now grab-and-go ready for when she brings the baby home. The end result? A perfectly organized nursery and a more relaxed, ready-to-go mom. Our favorite diaper bags are Fawn Design! You can use code NICEANDNEATHOMES for a discount.

WHY YOU SHOULD HOST A NESTING PARTY

In just two hours, we transformed her space, leaving her closet organized, her drawers sorted, and her essentials in place. This nesting party was the perfect way to make sure she felt prepared and supported before her baby’s arrival. Plus, doing it with friends made it feel like a celebration rather than a chore.

If you know someone who’s expecting, I can’t recommend hosting a nesting party enough. It’s a meaningful way to help a friend or family member feel prepared, and it’s also a lot of fun! And if a nesting party isn’t in the cards, our professional organizing team can help get any space prepared for a growing family!
